3rd Annual Cool & Fancy Gala

Cool and Fancy Gala Framed

Gala Wrapup

We got fancy, y’all.

But don't take our word for it. Check out these fabulous photos! (Please be patient! They may take a moment to load. Click any thumbnail below to view larger)

Party Highlights

Our annual galas are about more than looking fabulous (though you all were rocking it, by the way). Let’s not forget the real reason we gathered each year: to champion the arts and support our creative community. Your presence at the gala truly makes a difference and will help us keep the creative fires burning bright, till the next one comes around.

What a Show

We sure did dance the night away! Leroy Harper, Jr., and his fabulous All Starz, a ten-member lineup of hot jazz, R&B, smooth rock, funk and silky blues were, without a doubt, the most popular feature of the evening. Leroy delivered on his long association with rock and roll legend James Brown and brought some of the finest musicians and vocalists in the area with him.

Back by Popular Demand

Wilmington’s Middle of the Island Catering Co. hit a home run again! They love coming to Southport and we love having them, three times at bat and three times a winner!

First Time’s a Charm

Our new bourbon bar was a huge success -- it is definitely coming back next year. We especially liked it accompanied by another newcomer, our signature glasses, just the right size for a generous pour over ice, with just the right slogan for Up Your Arts: “Sign up. Show up. Celebrate and enjoy.”

Having Fun (And Raising Funds!)

With many thanks to the generosity of the community who contributed their time, talents and treasure, the 3rd Annual Cool & Fancy Gala raised over $17,000 to support Up Your Arts' array of programs and projects that showcase the creative and performing arts in our community.

Raffle Time! Three Lucky Winners

The big question of the night: who in the heck will win all those raffle drawings? Without further ado, if you missed the Facebook post, the winners are:

  • Barbara Lappala is now the proud owner of an amazing $800 case of French, Italian, and US mixed premium wines.
  • Leslie Scalzo is the very happy beneficiary of the $1,200 package of $100 gift certificates from twelve area restaurants.
  • Linda Lewis won the 50/50 raffle, Heads or Tails, and donated her winnings to Up Your Arts, yay Linda!
  • And, lucky Dennis Hetzel won the golf cart!! He is going to look so cool driving that snazzy beauty around!

“Raise Up Your Arts” Pole Banner Artists

Appearing for the first time in public, the 2024 group of pole banners that will soon be raised up above Southport’s central business district were on full display at the gala. The work of 24 local artists is a mixture of 2D and 3D mediums -- everything from paintings and photography to mosaics, pottery and fiber art to woodworking and glass, with equally varied subjects.

  • The two-dimensional artists are: Kristen Adkins, Chelsea Beard, Prentiss Halladay, Jeffrey Hanke, Bett Lewis, Kim Long, Tim Mauk, Nick Noble, Su Peyton, Lisa Prichard, Joy Rademacher, Jan Sowers, Chris Stitcher, Ann Thompson, and Buffy Weiss.
  • The three-dimensional artists are: Jill Brown, Dennis DelPrete, John Gray, Diana Mibelli, Austin Sapp, Bette Shanahan, Van Snyder, Carol Szot, and Michelle Truett.

Hats off to these artists and compliments to all the others who participated!

Thanks to All Who Made it Happen!

Thanks to all who helped to make this event even cooler and fancier than our previous two galas combined!
