What’s Up Your Arts April 2020

Greetings and well wishes to you and yours during this time of pandemic uncertainty. It seems that it will be a little while before we can all gather and celebrate again. Fortunately, we have some great content below that will entertain you while we all try to maintain our sanity during this stay at home order.

All of us at UYA want to thank you for your support and we ask that you please stay safe. Cheers to your continued good health and the return of normalcy!

Save The Hall, Y’all Project: Virtual Tour

We are excited to share a complete 3D video rendering of the entire interior structure of the old city hall building. Crystal Glass Photography has created a wonderful virtual, interactive 3D tour that allows you “virtual access” into the building to tour the old city hall for yourself.

TAKE THE TOUR

As you “walk” through this virtual tour, think about what you want to see in your local community arts building

Board of Directors: Meet Our Newest Members

Robert Carroll
Robert does not do “business as usual,” either at RE/MAX Southern Coast, where he is partner and broker in charge, or at home with family in a uniquely restored historic house in downtown Southport. His dedication to innovation encourages him to blend the latest digital technology with time-honored, people-driven factors that traditionally drive real estate sales, and he has built a highly successful practice with the results. Equally keen is Robert’s grasp of elements essential to healthy societies and his commitment to being as engaged in the life of his community as he is in his business. Up Your Arts flourishes with Robert’s aspiration at its core.

Emma Thomas
Emma is an award-winning, long-standing contributor to the vibrancy of Southport’s commerce community as the owner of The Adventure Kayak Company. She launched the business in 2000, after building a career in parks and recreation management, and has set the gold standard for excellence in customer service ever since. Emma also works extensively with non-profit organizations and government agencies throughout the region to pair her knowledge of coastal North Carolina’s outdoor wonders with the village it takes to maintain them. This focus is a necessary ingredient to the success of Up Your Arts’ mission, and Emma is the necessary spark to ensure it.

Join us in welcoming Robert & Emma as our 2 newest BOD members!

The Moore Street Project

Moore Street Project

We have had some great submissions for the Moore Street Project. The Moore Street Project is an opportunity for local artists to exhibit and sell their art in the heart of Southport!

Andrew Laing and Bridget Reichhart, the owners of Moore Street Market, have invited UYA to select and install original artwork in their very cool, eclectic deli and cafe.

We are still accepting submissions!
If you are an artist interested in displaying and selling your work, you can join the Moore Street Project by:

  1. Download the submission form at the following link

👏Special Thanks to Uncorked by the Sea Wine Shop & Gallery

Uncorked by the Sea Wine Shop & Gallery (602 N. Howe St.) chose UYA to benefit from their 5-7 PM Thursday wine tastings during March.

We were able to have 2 successful Thursday evenings before “social distancing” became the new normal.

Thank you Meridith and Jeff for your kind generosity!

Introducing The #SouthportShowcase

We understand the time and dedication many of our local artists put into practicing for their next performances. Sadly, these performances have now been canceled. We feel your disappointment immensely and were inspired to create the #SouthportShowcase as a way to celebrate with each other and engage with our local artists on Facebook during North Carolina’s stay at home order.

We are encouraging all local Southport musicians, painters, artisans and performers to record their performances/art sessions/crafting and post it on their Facebook using the hashtag #SouthportShowcase to begin a content feed of local artist videos on Facebook for the community to enjoy!

If you make your post shareable (change post privacy setting to public), we will then share and promote videos with the #SouthportShowcase on Up Your Art’s Facebook page.

We also want to feature live performances where we encourage viewers to show up to a viewing party at a set time to engage with their friends and you, while LIVE!  If you are interested in putting on a live performance/art session please email Kelly at SouthportShowcaseUYA@gmail.com to coordinate.
