A Bennie With the Jets
Join Up Your Arts at this drive-in concert on Saturday, November 7, from 2-5pm, at the Cape Fear Regional Jetport. Eat fabulous food from Southport’s own Frying Pan Restaurant and shake your social distance booty outside to the sounds of two great bands.
Local stars Charlene and the Bluegrass Charlatans are up first: four amazing musicians and many more instruments, a class act you won’t want to miss. Spence Hayden, Jamie Hoover, John Tatum, and Ken Tatum have played blues, rock, country, and the Beatles with a wide variety of infamous performers all over the United States, but when the four of them concentrate strictly on bluegrass with Charlene, it’s some serious, down-home business.
Wilmington’s premier dance band Uptown Easy kicks it up next with drums and brass so hot your feet will not stay put: funk, soul, disco, pop, anyway you want it, this is a boogiedown party band experience. And they all sing: Jaime Michele leads on vocals; Gary Bowers on trumpet, vocals and percussion; Keith DeLoatch on trombone, vocals and percussion; Spence Hayden on keys and vocals; Bill Holland on bass and vocals; Brian King on guitar and vocals; and Scott Kelly on drums and vocals.
The cost is $40 per carload, all tickets sold in advance, food priced separately. Proceeds benefit the Save the Hall, Y’all campaign by Up Your Arts to transform the old city hall building in the heart of downtown Southport into an arts center. Gates open at 1pm on November 7; rain date is November 14.
